According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job positions for nail technology employees such as nail technicians and manicurist/pedicurists will grow this year by 31%.
As I have mentioned in some other articles, unlike a lot of other industries in the world right now, the beauty industry is enjoying huge growth thanks to the growing demand for beauty services. In the US, despite the huge amount of jobs losses, beauty professionals are experiencing increased earning potential, greater job security and more employment options.
It is my experience that a lot of beauty therapists don’t offer nail technology services. There are a number of reasons for this, not the least being, that there is more money to be made in other services which are less time consuming.
I have found a remedy for the time problem. Having been in the beauty industry for just on 30 years, I have had a lot of time to seek out a nail system which is both quicker and easier to do. Not only that, this system, which I use, and have for at least eight years, does not have the offensive and sometime overpowering smell that the traditional acrylic system has. I have used every type of system available from porcelain nails, which not a lot of technicians would have even heard of , silk nails, fiberglass nails, gel nails, acrylic and so forth. This system uses acrylic powder but resin is used which means that the shaping and filing time is much less. The job is completed much quicker and I can say with confidence nails are a lot more resilient. Further, the need for fills are between four and seven weeks.
As the current demand for these services increase, the business-savvy personal appearance professionals, are returning to beauty schools for nail technology programs. It seems like a logical career step because these programs are relatively short-term, but adding nail care to your repertoire can have long-lasting effects on your career prospects.
Whether you’re already in the beauty industry, or you’re an artistic individual looking for a fun and the potential for career success, think about enrolling in a nail technology program. It makes sense beauty is one of today’s fastest growing fields, but manicures and pedicures are topping the list of consumer demand.
Give the people what they want and benefit from working in a growing field.
